The pilot operation has commenced on two routes: Majlis Park to Pradhan Enclave and Akshardham to Mayur Vihar Phase 3. Minister Gehlot stated in a press conference that the pilot will run for one week. “Based on the response received, we will implement the scheme fully in two to three weeks,” he added. The primary goal of the Mohalla bus service is to provide convenient transport facilities close to residents’ homes across the national capital.

Key Features of the Mohalla Bus Service

  • Free Travel for Women: Similar to other Delhi government buses, women will be able to travel free on the Mohalla buses.
  • Electric Buses: The fleet will consist of fully electric buses, each 9 meters in length, aligning with the government’s push towards sustainable and pollution-free public transport.
  • Extensive Coverage: The initiative aims to enhance transport connectivity to all villages and localities in Delhi, fulfilling Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s vision of comprehensive transport accessibility.
